Hi, I'm Allison Carroll Slater!
I'm the owner and teacher of the Metro Atlanta Flute Studio.
I believe that music lessons help children fulfill their enormous potential by developing self-sufficient, hard working, and well-rounded global citizens.
As a musician, I've seen it all! I've played with collegiate ensembles, marching bands, and pit orchestras. I've taught middle school band, high school band, history of rock and roll, and more!
Plus, I've taught hundredsssss of flute lessons over the years!
During my time as a musician and as a teacher of young musicians, I've learned a lot about kids, keeping them engaged and excited about playing, and helping them become the very best versions of themselves.
My favorite takeaway from all this time teaching is that kids can absolutely astound us (and themselves!) with their musical and personal growth when they're committed to learning a musical instrument.
How? Great question!
Learning an instrument, truly learning it (not just tooting around for a year of band class) requires discipline, perseverance, time management, and self-sufficiency, among other traits. And when I help push my students, and they push themselves to reach our musical goals - they tend to do a lot of growing as humans at the same time.
And I, for one, think that's pretty darn cool. Don't you?
Sign Up for Flute Lessons Today!
Every lesson includes individualized instruction - YOU are the star of the show!
No matter your age (8 to 88!), experience level (absolute beginner, or if you're prepping for collegiate auditions), or goals (make first chair in 8th grade band, or audition into the AYSO), we'll tailor the music, goals, and instruction to fit YOUR needs.
Seriously, how often does that happen?
In band, sure, your band director cares about you- but how often is everything about YOU?! Probably never.
That's why flute lessons ROCK.
Ready to become an amazing flute player AND develop those life-long skills??
Our flute studio is one big family!
Back in the day, I took piano lessons. I had a very nice, but not super fun teacher.
We played every week. I got my sticker. I went home and practiced.
I was SO BORED. I hated practicing, and my mom had to (try to) MAKE me practice. OMG. I. Was. So. Bored.
Yeah, I know I probably shouldn't say that here, but it's the truth. I was sooo bored.
I thought maybe I'd made a mistake and music wasn't for me. But I stuck with it, signed up for middle school band, discovered the flute, and absolutely FELL IN LOVE with playing music.
Want to know why?
Besides just the flute being a SUPER fun instrument to play (cause it IS), I think I loved band so much because I got to play with other people!!
I made flute friends (that I still have today!), I got to be a part of something bigger than me, but still make important contributions and do my part.
I got to take trips around the country to rehearse and perform in band! I got to meet people, see places, and perform in places I would have never imagined if it hadn't been for my community of musicians.
Seriously. Nearly ALL of my friends, my husband, and nearly everyone in our wedding - they're all music friends. Music brings us together in a unique and special way that changes us for the better!
That's why I STRONGLY believe in our flute STUDIO - a flute family that does so much more than just have individual students attend their lessons without ever interacting, performing, hanging out with, or making friends with anyone else. (that sounds so boring!! why would we do that!?)
Instead, we're a flute FAMILY. We're friends, we're musical colleagues, and we do a LOT together. Check it out!
